This season of American Idol has been tagged as one of, if not the most boring season ever. One could not point a finger whether it was the judges revamp, the show itself that has gotten its tricks old, or if it is this season’s finalists that have gotten their singing styles old. American Idol season 9 winner Lee DeWyze has been scoring well in the iTunes sales charts. Three tracks in the list and he has not released his debut album yet – now that is rare, but will it last? His winning piece “Beautiful Day” which is a U2 cover and his highest entry, landed on the 3rd spot on the iTunes list while another of his covers, “Hallelujah”, which looking back might have been his ticket not only to the finale but also to eventually winning the title, is sitting comfortably – for now – at no.6. “Falling Slowly” a duet he did with “Idol” runner-up Crystal Bowersox is at no.12.

Indeed being a part of American Idol, more so if you make it to the finals, has its huge perks, along with the publicity and exposure, both finalists can get to be taken under the wings of major record labels like RCA and Jive, as is the case of Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox. Shortly after Lee won as the newest “Idol”, he is now lined up with the likes of fellow A.I alums Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert under RCA and 19 Recordings Limited. While Bowersox joined past A.I winners and finalists Jordin Sparks, Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta again under 19 Recordings Limited and this time, with Jive Records.

In a month where many TV series are lashing out their season finales just before summer sets in, American Idol also manages to crown a new and unexpected winner – Lee DeWyze. The surprise comes on Wednesday night at the Nokia Theatre in front of thousands. DeWyze himself was also surprised when his name was called, he almost rummaged through the stage while shedding tears as he obviously could not contain his exhilaration, and probably a little of disbelief. And for good reason, runner-up Crystal Bowersox, the young single mom hailing from Ohio, and her impressive folk vocal stylings, made her the clear favorite from day one.
